What Should I Wear?
We know Senior year is a big celebration year for students and their families, so we are here to try and help make it easier. All schools have their own dress code decided for their yearbooks ranging from graduation gowns to a top of your choice. So what does your school require of you? Listed below are the dress codes per school.
If your school requires gown, we recommend wearing a collared shirt, high cut shirt, under the gown as it does show off the top of the shirt. Show your style by wearing your favorite necklace or earrings.
If your school requires a tux we recommend wearing a white t-shirt if you are borrowing a tux from our studio or if you own a tux bring it with the jacket on a hanger. For the drape we recommend wearing a strapless shirt or bringing a band to wear under the drape. Both options are provided for use by PSS Imaging at the time of your session.
If you're school leaves it up to students on what they choose to wear, we still recommend following your schools dress code, i.e. no strapless tanks or low cut v-necks. Yearbook crops do tend to be on the upper part of the chest and may give an unwanted affect if you wear on of these items.
The yearbook background is a blue grey color so solid colors are usually best. We recommend more dark solid tones such as black, maroon, navy blue, beet, dark taupe, et cetera.
Do I have to wear nice pants and shoes?
For the yearbook photo, it is cropped from mid chest and up, therefore you don't have to worry about anything below the chest.
We do offer personal sessions as well as cap and gown photos which can include full body photos if you would like. If you decide to do this type of session then we do recommend wearing nice bottoms and shoes.
What if the outfit I want to wear doesn't fit the requirement?
Of course our company is happy to get your yearbook photo done for you, but that's not all we have to offer. All students have the ability to add on to their session and take more personalized photos. We have changing rooms in our studio so that you can put on that sports gear or get fancy in your prom dress to take photos to show off to the family. If you plan to add some outfits on to your session we recommend checking out our sessions and deciding what you would like to do ahead of time so that you can compile those outfits and have them ready for your session.
For more information about sessions you can check out our blog post dedicated to sessions and all the possibilities you can get out of them.
What about makeup and hair?
Unfortunately we cannot offer a hair and makeup artist on site, but we do have some tips if you plan to do it yourself or have someone else do it for you.
Remember when taking photos we do use strong lighting, and while we know highlight and sparkles are super cute and in fashion right now, they don't appear well under flash lighting. They can cause you to appear oily so if you do decide to wear any, keep it light and airy.
Love what lipstick can add to an outfit? So do we, but make sure to check your teeth in our mirror. We will provide one in the dressing rooms as well as the photo taking area before we get started! Soft mattes usually work best for photos but if you decide to go for a gloss make sure to pull your hair back as hairs tend to stick in the gloss!
Eye makeup is a wonderful tool and can really enhance an eye color or eye size. White liner on the waterline can cause the eye size to seem larger and wider whilst eyelashes can minimize it due to the weight on your natural eyelashes. Be sure if you do plan to wear eyelashes, you bring glue to fix them if need be in our dressing rooms.
Foundation can be a powerful tool so if you do decide to wear them make sure to color match and use it on your entire face. If you want to cover some pimples its best to use full coverage rather than putting foundation on just the pimples. The camera and lighting will pick up tone differences and enhance them.
We do provide retouching so if you prefer not to wear makeup but still want those pesky pimples or lines to disappear we can definitely help! When selecting photos after your session you are presented with different retouching options that best fit your needs.
We recommend not getting a haircut the day of photos and instead do it ahead of time by a week or two especially for guys who might want to try a shorter look.
